Checklist: is foundry technician for you?

Use the list to make sure before you apply

It is a good idea to feel your way before you throw yourself into an education. Foundry technician is a strong but also special trade, and it is not for everyone. Use the checklist here as a personal temperature check — there are no wrong answers, only useful self-insight.

§Check these points

  • 01I am fine with heat, physical work and getting sweaty on the job
  • 02I am curious about metal, materials and how things are made
  • 03I like to see a tangible result of my effort
  • 04I take safety seriously and follow rules gladly
  • 05I am willing to move for school blocks in one place in the country
  • 06I want to earn wages while I learn rather than attend school full-time

§Points that require extra consideration

If you are in doubt about some points, it is not a stop sign — it is just a place to investigate further. For instance, if you do not like heat and smoke, visit a foundry and see how it is really experienced with modern extraction and equipment. If you are unsure about moving, explore the possibility of staying at school during school stays.

The most important advice: go out and see it with your own eyes. No checklist beats a day in a real foundry.
