Checklist: installation and anchoring of natural stone
From attachment to finished facade or staircase
Installation of heavy natural stone elements combines lifting safety with precision work. Use this checklist each time you need to set a facade panel, stair tread or table top in place.
§Before the lift
- 01Check lifting equipment SWL marking and rejection limits
- 02Assess the item's center of gravity and choose the lifting method accordingly
- 03Arrange standard signals or radio communication if the crane operator can't see the load
- 04Ensure that no one stands under or in the swing area of the suspended load
§Mortar and joints
- 01Choose mortar type and binder based on the task and substrate
- 02Mix the mortar according to instructions — neither too dry nor too wet
- 03Fill the joint completely without air pockets or holes
- 04Remove excess mortar before it hardens
§Mechanical anchoring
- 01Check that plate thickness meets requirements for chosen anchoring system
- 02Drill anchor holes according to instructions and fill them with mortar before installation
- 03Press the sheet in place against the previous one so the joint is uniform
- 04Check continuously that tiles are in line (level over tiles, no edge steps).
§After assembly
- 01Check that surface is level and aligns with other elements
- 02Clean the surface for mortar residue and dust
- 03Document the work, for example with photos, for the customer's and the company's quality assurance
- 04Inform the customer of any curing time before the element is loaded
