Checklist: your first day as apprentice
How to arrive well prepared
The first day of training sets the tone. If you arrive prepared, you show that you take the trade seriously — and you get a safer start. Use this checklist so you have the most important things in place.
§Before you meet
- 01Check meeting time and place, and find out how to get there in good time
- 02Ask beforehand whether you need to bring your own work clothes and safety shoes or if they are provided
- 03Have your papers in order — education agreement and any certificates
- 04Get a good night's sleep; the subject is physical and you need to be fresh
§On the actual day
- 01Greet those you are going to work with and find out who you go to with questions
- 02Get a tour and learn where fire exits, fire extinguishers, and first aid kits are
- 03Ask about the workshop's rules for safety, dust, and protective equipment
- 04Note what you do not understand – and ask, rather once too many
§The first weeks
Use the first weeks to learn the rhythm: how the day is structured how the tools are treated and how to clean up after yourself. Good habits with tidiness and safety are worth their weight in gold and are noticed.
