Hand hygiene protective equipment and clean routines

§Hand hygiene

  • 01Alcohol-rub hands before and after each resident contact.
  • 02Use water and soap when hands are visibly dirty.
  • 03Keep nails short, no rings, watches or bracelets.
  • 04Have bare forearms so you can get your hands properly clean.

§Protective equipment

  • 01Use gloves when in contact with body fluids.
  • 02Change gloves between clean and dirty tasks.
  • 03Use an apron or coat where necessary.
  • 04Remove protective equipment in the right order so you don't contaminate yourself.

§Clean routines

  • 01Always work from clean to dirty.
  • 02Use different cloths for different areas.
  • 03Handle waste and dirty laundry so it does not touch clean things.
  • 04Clean aids after use.
