Checklist: Safety equipment and isolation for contagious illness
How you solve problems step by step
Use the list when you need to care for a citizen with known or suspected infectious disease – it helps you use personal protective equipment correctly and avoid spreading the infection further.
§Before you enter to see the client
- 01Check local hygiene instruction for this particular resident and infection
- 02Put on the right protective equipment in the right order (coat or apron, mask or eye protection, gloves).
- 03Collect the equipment you need so you don't have to go in and out unnecessarily.
§During the visit.
- 01Avoid touching face phone or other things unrelated to the task.
- 02Change gloves between dirty and clean tasks for the same resident.
§When you leave the citizen.
- 01Remove protective equipment in the right order without contaminating yourself.
- 02Perform hand hygiene immediately afterward.
- 03Dispose of protective equipment according to guidelines.
§In doubt
- 01If you are in doubt about whether something is clean, treat it as unclean.
- 02Report to your manager if you lack personal protective equipment or training.
