Checklist: Safe medicine handling
The fixed checks before you give medicine
Medicine management requires full concentration and a fixed routine. Go through the list every time.
§Check
- 01Correct citizen – check identity according to routine.
- 02Correct medicine – does it match the prescription?
- 03Correct dose – the prescribed amount.
- 04Right time – at the right time.
- 05Correct method – as prescribed (e.g. orally, on the skin).
- 06Documentation – note that the medicine has been given.
§In doubt
- 01Stop — don't give the medication before it's clarified.
- 02Ask a colleague or the medical manager.
- 03Note what happened if anything deviates.
