Safety and preparation check before you light the arc
§Workplace and surroundings
- 01Has flammable material been cleared around the work area?
- 02Is there sufficient extraction or ventilation?
- 03Have welding screens been set up so others are not exposed to arc light?
- 04Is extinguishing equipment within reach?
§Personal protective equipment
- 01Welding helmet with correct filter
- 02Fire-retardant work clothes and welding gloves
- 03Safety shoes and apron if necessary
- 04Respiratory protection when working with stainless or galvanized material
§Equipment and settings.
- 01Are cables, hoses and earth clamp intact and correctly connected?
- 02Are gas bottle and regulator in order and has the cover gas been selected correctly?
- 03Are current, wire speed and polarity set for material and method?
- 04Is the item clean and free of rust, paint, grease and moisture on the joint surfaces?
