Standard choice: welding method by task
A systematic choice based on material goods and workplace
§Clarify the material
- 01What metal is it — unalloyed steel, stainless, or aluminum?
- 02Which material group and is there a certificate or designation to go by?
- 03Are there requirements in a welding procedure (WPS) that bind the method choice?
§Clarify goods and assembly
- 01How thick is the material, and what type of joint are we talking about?
- 02Should the seam carry load or contain pressure?
- 03In which position should there be welding?
§Clarify finish and work location
- 01Is the seam visible and are there requirements for appearance?
- 02Does the work happen in a workshop or outdoors in wind?
- 03Is production and assembly operator an authorised trade like electrician or plumber?
§Guiding connection
| Situation | Typically suitable method |
|---|---|
| Thin stainless steel, high finish | TIG |
| Series production in steel | MAG |
| Aluminum | MIG or TIG |
