Plan: preparation for the journeyman's test
A step-by-step plan for the last months before the final exam
§Early in the course
- 01Clarify with the school what requirements and assessment criteria apply to your specialty
- 02Review previous journeyman exam questions if available
- 03Make a short summary of the most important rules and technical concepts.
§2–3 months before
- 01Practice the techniques you're least confident in with feedback from a journeyman or instructor
- 02Review drawing reading, tolerances and material designations relevant to the task
- 03Make a short, honest application that shows you understand the field's safety requirements
§Last month
- 01Check lights, instruments and pumps
- 02Review relevant documentation requirements — control forms, material certificates and similar if the exam requires it
- 03Practice a full mock test under time pressure so you know your own pace
§The actual test day
- 01Arrived in good time and inspected equipment and materials before work started
- 02Follow your planned sequence and measure as you go — not just at the end
- 03Clean up and document on an ongoing basis so you don't have to spend time on it at the very end
