How to assess a wood stove and the customer's heating habits during the visit
Use this checklist when you need to assess a wood stove and the customer's firing — whether the stove is new and covered by Ecodesign requirements, or older. Always adapt the assessment to the specific stove and applicable regulations.
§Before the inspection
- 01Find out how old the oven is and whether it is covered by Ecodesign requirements.
- 02Ask the customer how often and how they fire.
- 03Check if the stored firewood is dry.
§The actual wood-fired oven
- 01Are headings and highlighted text read extra carefully?
- 02Are there signs of gloss soot or unusually much soot in the chimney?
- 03Does draft and combustion work as they should?
- 04Are there visible damage to the kiln, pipes or chimney?
§Customer's heating habits
- 01Is it lit from the top and is dry wood used?
- 02Is the fireplace overfilled with too much firewood at once?
- 03Does the customer know the signs of poor combustion — lots of smoke and soot?
- 04Does the customer have a carbon monoxide alarm if relevant for the system?
