The journeyman's exam and schooling at EUC Syd

While many vocational educations are offered at schools throughout the country, the chimney sweep profession is something special: all school teaching takes place in one place. This creates a close professional community across the country — and a clear path forward towards the journeyman's examination.

EUC Syd in Tønder is the only vocational school in Denmark that trains chimney sweeps. The school has roots back to 1920 when Tønder Technical School was founded, and has since been known for strong programs in, among other things, baking, metal fabrication, and chimney sweep trades.

The education has one main track, but along the way you have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in different topics through elective specialist courses. The course alternates between school periods at EUC Syd and apprenticeship in a chimney sweep business, where you put theory into practice.

The education ends with a journeyman test where you must demonstrate your skills — both the theoretical knowledge of rules safety and technique and the practical skills in cleaning inspection and customer advice. Passing is critical because legal chimney sweep work requires a passed journeyman test or equivalent recognised education.
