Checklist: preventive inspection of machinery

A systematic procedure for planned maintenance

A good inspection is systematic. Follow a fixed sequence so you do not skip anything and note as you go. Remember that each individual motor or facility manual is always the final reference for intervals torques and tolerances.

§Before you start

  • 01Find the manual and read the service plan for this specific system
  • 02Ensure that the system is disconnected and cannot start and that pressure has been relieved
  • 03Let hot parts cool off and use the right protective equipment
  • 04Collect tools, measuring instruments and spare parts you expect to need

§During the inspection.

  • 01Look for leaks wear cracks and loose joints
  • 02Check load distribution before departure
  • 03Measure the values the manual specifies — pressure, temperature, tolerances
  • 04Clamp joints with the prescribed torque
  • 05Check moving parts for abnormal wear or play

§When you are done.

  • 01Assemble the system and remove tools and materials from the worksite
  • 02Test that everything works before the system is put into normal operation
  • 03Document what you have done and what you have changed
  • 04Note any things that should be watched at the next inspection
