Staffing of a fixed post

How many guards do we need to hire to cover the post around the clock?

Answer: A post that must be staffed round the clock all week is 168 duty hours a week. A full-time employee works 37 hours but also takes holiday, holiday breaks and is sick now and then. That's why you need more staff than you might think. The calculator converts the post's hours to full-time equivalents based on your working hours and your absence as a percentage. Both figures are your own from the agreement and the staffing plan.

Formula

Vagttimer pr. uge = poster × timer pr. døgn × dage pr. uge

Effektive timer pr. ansat = normtid × (1 − fravær ÷ 100)

Årsværk = vagttimer pr. uge ÷ effektive timer pr. ansat

Eksempel: 1 post døgnet rundt = 168 timer. 37 × 0,85 = 31,45 timer. 168 ÷ 31,45 = 5,3 årsværk.

Validity and source

Source: Staffing calculation: duty hours ÷ (standard time × (1 − absence))

Does not apply when

The standard value for absence is only an example. Use your own figures: 5 weeks' holiday and 5 extra holiday days are alone approx. 11–12% of the year. The duty schedule must also comply with the 11-hour rule, rest day and 48-hour average (see those calculators).
