Work process: sampling and documentation
How to take a sample correctly and document it so quality and traceability are in order
Follow this procedure when you need to take samples during production. A sample taken incorrectly or poorly documented is worse than no sample.
§1. Prepare sampling
- 01Do you know what should be measured, when and where?
- 02Has the test weld been checked visually and possibly with NDT if the procedure requires it?
- 03Do you follow the hygiene the product requires?
§2. Take the sample correctly
Take the sample in the right place and at the right time according to the procedure. A sample taken incorrectly gives a misleading picture of quality — and can lead to wrong decisions about an entire batch.
§3. Label and store
- 01Mark the sample unambiguously so it can be traced to batch and time
- 02Store or send it as the procedure prescribes
- 03Make sure that nothing can be confused
§4. Document
Note what you did, when and what values you may have measured. The documentation is what makes the product trustworthy – and finds the fault if something proves to be wrong later.
