After the journeyman certificate — further in the system

From skilled to technologist master shipbuilder engineer and manager

Many think a vocational education is the end of schooling. It is far from it. A journeyman's certificate as a process operator gives you a strong technical foundation and on top of that you can build further — both with short courses and with entire higher educations. Here are some of the options.

§The specialties – the first step up

The very first step can be taken within the education itself. If you choose to continue to level 2 with the specialty in pharma and food ingredients or green energy and production you get a more specialized profile which many companies value. It makes you more than someone who operates a system.

§Courses and further training

As a skilled person you can take courses that keep your skills sharp and give you new ones — for example in automation quality management hygiene truck or safety. It is often the fastest way to more responsibility and higher wages without needing to leave the workplace for a long time. AMU courses are a typical entry point here.

§Specialization and leadership roles

With experience you can move from executing tasks to planning and leading them. It could be as team leader shift leader or production manager. Here your practical experience counts heavily — you know what works on the floor and that is invaluable when managing others.

§Higher technical educations

If you want to go deeper into the technique or into management, there are higher paths. Several of them are built specifically for skilled workers so your background counts.

§Take it at your own pace

The beauty of the system is that you don't have to decide everything now. You can work for a few years find out what pulls you and then build further when it makes sense. Many only take a continuation program when they have figured out which direction they are passionate about.

A journeyman's certificate is not a wall at the end of the road — it is a landing you can move forward from.
