Checklist: quality control of layer thickness and adhesion

The measurements you take before you deliver the task

Use this checklist each time a task approaches delivery. It gathers the inspections that show whether the coating meets the agreed requirement.

§Before measurement

  • 01Is the coating cured/dry enough that measurement gives a representative result?
  • 02Is the measuring equipment calibrated?
  • 03Do you know the agreed requirement for layer thickness and adhesion for this specific task?

§Layer thickness (DFT)

  • 01Have measurements been taken at several places on each surface, not just one place?
  • 02Have minimum, maximum and average been noted?
  • 03Has the result been approved before series production really gets going?

§Adhesion (cross-section)

  • 01Has a cross-section test been performed on a test piece or less visible location?
  • 02Has the result been assessed against the acceptance limits in the maintenance manual?
  • 03Has the test been repeated if the result was in doubt?

§Handover

  • 01Are all dimensions checked against the original measurement or size table?
  • 02Have any certificates or batch numbers been collected?
  • 03Has the customer been informed of the inspection result?

When all points are checked off the task is ready for handover with documentation that stands up.
