Work process: pretreatment of a metal part
Step by step from degreasing to clean clear surface
Follow these steps to prepare a metal part for coating. Skip nothing — each step removes something that would otherwise weaken adhesion.
§1. Degreasing
Remove grease and oil first. Paint doesn't stick to a greasy surface. Degrease before mechanical treatment so you don't just spread the grease over the entire item.
§2. Remove rust and old paint
- 01Remove rust and loose old paint mechanically (grinding or blasting) or chemically
- 02Make sure that you reach into corners, edges and recesses
- 03Leave a clean surface, often slightly rough, so the coating has good grip
§3. Final cleaning
Remove all dust and abrasive after mechanical treatment. A surface that looks clean but is covered with fine dust gives poor adhesion.
§4. Inspection
- 01Is the entire surface clean, dry and free of grease?
- 02Have rust and loose paint been removed?
- 03Is the surface ready for the chosen coating?
Only when the surface is inspected and approved do you proceed to application.
