Surface treatment is a trade with chemistry and chemistry must be handled responsibly. Many of the products emit fumes or mist that should not be inhaled and some are flammable. Good safety is about making the right things a habit.

§Fire and storage
Many solvents and products are flammable and spray mist can form an explosive mixture in the air. Therefore open flames and sparks are prohibited in the spray area and products are stored correctly in suitable cabinets and containers. Used cloths and waste are handled according to rules.

Residues of paint, solvents and pretreatment chemicals are often environmentally hazardous waste and must not be rinsed out or thrown in ordinary rubbish. Part of the skill is to handle and sort waste correctly — for both the environment's and your own sake.

Quality in surface treatment is a coating that is clean, even, thick enough and without defects — and that lasts over time. Because many defects only appear after months, control along the way is crucial: was the pretreatment good enough, is the layer thickness right, are there runs or dry spots?
