3D scanning is faster than plaster casting but requires the same care. A poor scan produces a model that does not match reality – and this may not be discovered until the aid is to be tested.

  • 02Ensure even, glare-free light around the body part
  • 03Place the user in the correct load or rest position
  • 04Ask the user to keep still during scanning – movement causes distortion
  • 05Scan from multiple angles with complex geometry eg a foot with high arch
  • 06Review the 3D model for holes or noise before closing the session
  • 07Name and save the file with user ID date and body part according to the clinic's system
  • 08Back up the file before transferring it to the CAD program
