Checklist: preparation of veneer and veneer pressing
The fixed checks you go through before veneer and glue meet properly
Use this list each time you need to finish an object. Contact adhesive bonds instantly, and a pressing cannot be corrected afterwards — so preparation pays off twice over.
§Substrate and veneer.
- 01Is the substrate flat, clean and free of grease or dust?
- 02Is the veneer stored flat and without wrinkles, cracks or damage?
- 03Have you laid the veneer sheets dry and checked that the grain pattern and match (book match/quarter match) fit?
§Glue and temperature
- 01Have you chosen the right adhesive type for the task — contact adhesive or PVA?
- 02Is the room exposed to moisture (bathroom, kitchen) or dry (living room, bedroom)?
- 03Do you know the glue's drying time or open time before you start?
§Pressing
- 01Are doors, windows and ventilation prepared for maximum ventilation?
- 02Do you have enough blocks or spacers for even pressure across the entire surface?
- 03Have you noted how long the item should be pressed or lie in the vacuum bag?
When all points are checked off you are ready to glue – calmly and with a clear conscience.
