Checklist: before you start the machine
A fixed routine that prevents most machine accidents
Most machine accidents occur because something routine was skipped. Use this checklist until it is ingrained — so you do not stop to think, you do it automatically.
§Before you start
- 01Are guards and protections in place?
- 02Is the blade/tool sharp and mounted correctly?
- 03Is the extraction connected and on?
- 04Do you have hearing protection and possibly respiratory protection on?
- 05Is the table cleared of loose objects and chips?
§While you work
- 01Use push sticks for narrow items
- 02Never stand in the item's cutting direction
- 03Keep both hands at a safe distance from the blade
- 04Never force the workpiece — let the machine work
§When you are done.
- 01Switch off and wait until the machine comes to a complete stop
- 02Remove chips only when blade is still
- 03Clean up after yourself so the next person starts safely
