Checklist: find and secure your apprenticeship as dairyman

Step by step from application to signed training agreement

Finding an apprenticeship is the most important step towards completing the dairy technician programme. Use this checklist as a reminder, so you get off to a good and structured start.

§1. Prepare yourself

  • 01Make a list of workshops and stores that might be willing to take students.
  • 02Write a short application explaining why you are interested in the dairy profession.
  • 03Find out which dairies and food companies are within range.

§2. Search broadly and in good time

  • 01Send applications to multiple companies — do not wait for answers from one at a time.
  • 02Use the school's advisers and apprenticeship portals to find open positions.
  • 03Follow up by phone or email if you don't hear anything.

§3. For the interview

Show up well prepared, be on time and show that you are curious about the trade. Ask about what a day looks like and what they expect from an apprentice.

§4. Training agreement

  • 01Get the agreement in writing, and read it carefully before signing.
  • 02Are you under 18, a parent must also sign.
  • 03Be aware of the probationary period at the beginning of the programme.
  • 04Send the agreement to the school so your place in the main course is confirmed.
