OEE on a production line

How efficient was packaging line on this shift and where is loss?

Answer: OEE shows what fraction of the line's possible production became good units. It's the product of three figures: availability (time the line ran), performance (how fast it ran compared to ideal) and quality (fraction without scrap). The calculator gives the three figures and OEE for a shift so you can see where loss sits: in stops, in slow running or in scrap.

Formula

Tilgængelighed = (planlagt tid − stop) ÷ planlagt tid

Ydelse = produceret ÷ (ideel kapacitet × driftstid)

Kvalitet = (produceret − kasseret) ÷ produceret

OEE = tilgængelighed × ydelse × kvalitet = gode enheder ÷ (ideel kapacitet × planlagt tid)

Does not apply when

  • The ideal capacity is the machine's nameplate or design capacity for exactly that product and packaging, not the speed the line usually runs. Scheduled breaks without production are deducted from the planned time before you enter. The company's own OEE definition takes precedence.

Step by step

  1. Skriv den planlagte produktionstid i skiftet.
  2. Læg alle stop sammen: omstillinger, fejl, CIP og ventetid.
  3. Find linjens ideelle kapacitet for netop dette produkt.
  5. Læs tilgængelighed, ydelse og kvalitet. Det laveste tal viser, hvor tabet sidder.

Typical errors

  • At bruge den hastighed linjen plejer at køre som ideel kapacitet. Så bliver ydelsen kunstigt høj.
  • At glemme små stop. De dukker op som lav ydelse.
  • At regne omarbejdede enheder som gode.
  • At lægge de tre procenter sammen i stedet for at gange dem.

Examples from everyday life

Planned production time
480 min
Stop and changeovers (incl. CIP in the shift)
60 min
Line's ideal capacity
120 stk/min
Total produced
40,000 pcs
Scrapped or reworked
800 pcs

It means: OEE er 68.1 %.

Planned production time
450 min
Stop and changeovers (incl. CIP in the shift)
90 min
Line's ideal capacity
60 stk/min
Total produced
18,000 pcs
Scrapped or reworked
300 pcs

It means: OEE er 65.6 %.

Rule of thumb

Tre tal på 90 % giver en OEE på ca. 73 %. Tre tal på 80 % giver ca. 51 %.

How to check the answer
