Checklist: veneer and gluing work
Control points from veneer selection to finished pressed item
Use this checklist when you need to finish or laminate an object where pattern, glue choice and pressing must work together. Go through the points before you start, and again after pressing.
§Before you start
- 01Have the veneer sheets been counted and matched correctly (book match/quarter match/running match)?
- 02Does the core material (chipboard/MDF/plywood) suit the task's requirements for stability?
- 03Has the right adhesive type been chosen based on moisture and use requirements (e.g. PVAc, PU or urea formaldehyde)?
- 04Are the local temperature and humidity within the glue's recommended working range?
- 05Is the pressure evenly distributed over the entire surface without local pressure points?
§During adhesive application and clamping
- 01Is the glue quantity evenly distributed — neither too thin nor so thick that glue penetrates through the veneer?
- 02Do you keep within the glue's open time from application to full pressure?
- 03Is the veneer laid correctly oriented so the pattern matches the plan?
- 04Is the pressing method (vacuum bag, clamp or press) ready and tested without glue?
§After pressing
