Checklist: equipment check and preparation for season start
Review standing and running rigging, safety equipment and hull before launching the boat
A thorough pre-season review is the cheapest insurance you can give a boat. Go systematically through the points below instead of relying on memory.
§Standing rigging
- 01Check wire for rust spots and broken strands ('fish hooks')
- 02Check consistency: not too thin (runs from stone) and not too dry (doesn't stick).
- 03Check mast foot and guying for corrosion or damage.
- 04Lubricate anchor bolts and check that cotter pins/locks are intact
§Løbende rig
- 01Review wear and scuffing on edges and joints
- 02Check blocks and winches and lubricate as needed
- 03Replace running rigging that is clearly worn or stiffened.
§Safety equipment
- 01Check life jacket for damage and proper automation
- 02Check fire extinguisher and its date stamp
- 03Check fire extinguishers and other emergency equipment for expiration date
- 04Test radio and other communication equipment
§Hull and penetrations
- 01Check that all passages and valves operate smoothly
- 02Check the condition of the undercoating and any damage
- 03Check sacrificial anodes and replace those that are corroded
