Document template: multi-year crop rotation plan

Plan crop selection field by field over several seasons at a time

A good crop rotation is not planned from year to year but in a multi-year cycle where you know in advance which crops follow each other on each field. Use the template to collect the overview and update it whenever the plan is adjusted.

§Mark master data

  • 01Mark number area and soil type.
  • 02Known crop rotation diseases or pests that have historically caused problems in the field.
  • 03Distance to watercourses, lakes or other areas with fringe requirements.

§Principles that should guide the plan

  • 01Avoid growing the same crop or closely related crops on the same field year after year.
  • 02Place legume plants where their nitrogen fixation can be utilised by the following crop.
  • 03Fit catch crops where the requirements must be met and where they benefit soil structure and nutrient utilisation.
  • 04Account for the field's soil type and drainage conditions when determining crop rotation.

§Annual follow-up

  • 01Was the plan followed, or did it have to deviate due to weather, market or illness?
  • 02Are there new experiences (yield, disease pressure, weeds) that should adjust next year's plan?
  • 03Date for the next review of the multi-year plan.
