Contribution margin for a cash crop

What do I earn per hectare on winter wheat?

Answer: Contribution margin (DB) is what a field earns before machines, wages, land rent and interest are paid. You take the gross yield (grain times price plus any straw sales) and deduct the piece costs from it: seed, fertiliser, plant protection and other direct expenses such as drying and insurance. The calculator also shows what yield is needed before the piece costs are covered, and what is left when you also deduct machine and labour costs. The numbers are yours from the budget or accounts.

Formula

Bruttoudbytte = udbytte (hkg/ha) × pris (kr/hkg) + salg af halm (kr/ha)

Stykomkostninger = udsæd + gødning + planteværn + øvrige direkte omkostninger

Dækningsbidrag (DB) = bruttoudbytte − stykomkostninger. For hele marken ganges med arealet

Udbytte der betaler stykomkostningerne = (stykomkostninger − halm) ÷ pris

Tilbage efter maskiner og arbejde = DB − maskin- og arbejdsomkostninger (kaldes ofte DB II eller resultat før jord og kapital)

Step by step

  1. Skriv markens areal, det forventede udbytte og afregningsprisen.
  2. Læg salg af halm til, hvis du sælger den.
  3. Skriv stykomkostningerne pr. hektar: udsæd, gødning, planteværn og øvrige (tørring, forsikring, analyser).
  4. DB pr. hektar = bruttoudbytte − stykomkostninger. Gang med arealet for hele marken.
  5. Træk maskin- og arbejdsomkostninger fra for at se, hvad der er tilbage til jord og kapital.

Typical errors

  • At tage maskinomkostningerne med i stykomkostningerne. Dækningsbidraget regnes før maskiner og arbejde.
  • At sammenligne afgrøder med forskellige priser uden at tænke på, at prisen er usikker. Regn også med en lavere pris.
  • At glemme halmen, når den sælges. Den kan betyde over 1.000 kr pr. hektar.

Examples from everyday life

Vinterhvede på 50 ha

Du regner på 50 ha vinterhvede med 85 hkg pr. hektar til 155 kr pr. hkg. Halmen snittes ned. Stykomkostningerne er 700 kr udsæd, 1.800 kr gødning, 1.000 kr planteværn og 400 kr øvrige pr. ha, og maskiner og arbejde koster 3.800 kr pr. ha.

Maltbyg med salg af halm

Maltbyggen på 30 ha giver 65 hkg pr. hektar til 165 kr pr. hkg, og halmen sælges for 1.200 kr pr. ha. Udsæd 600 kr, gødning 1.300 kr, planteværn 600 kr og øvrige 350 kr pr. ha. Maskiner og arbejde 3.500 kr pr. ha.

Rule of thumb

Ved 155 kr pr. hkg skal hver ekstra 100 kr i stykomkostninger hentes med ca. 0,65 hkg mere pr. hektar.

Gang DB pr. hektar med arealet. Du skal få DB for hele marken. Og bruttoudbyttet minus stykomkostningerne skal give DB pr. hektar.
