Standard solution: daily truck inspection before use
The fixed inspection that catches errors before they become dangerous
A truck must be inspected daily before use. The inspection catches errors while they are small and prevents a defective brake or steering from being discovered in a dangerous situation. Find a fault then take the truck out of service and report it — do not continue with it.
§Visual inspection (engine off)
- 01Look for oil hydraulic fluid leaks and — on electric trucks — check battery/charger.
- 02Check deck/wheels for damage and wear.
- 03Check forks for cracks, deformation and wear, and that they are secure.
- 04Check that the driver guard, seat and belt are intact and working.
- 05Check oil level and coolant on combustion truck according to specification.
§Functional testing (in a safe location)
- 01Test the parking and emergency brake.
- 02Test the controller for free and normal movement.
- 03Raise/lower the forks and move forward/back and check lift and lower without jerking.
- 04Test horn, work and warning lights and any reversing alarm.
- 05Check instruments and warning lights.
§In case of error
- 01Put a clear sign on: "Defective — must not be used".
- 02Report the error to your manager/workshop immediately.
- 03Use another approved truck — never improvise a repair.
- 04Note the inspection where the workplace requires documentation.
