Signals and communication during lifting

Fixed agreements between crane operator and slinger so no one misunderstands anything.

Follow this procedure when several people are lifting. Clear communication is as important as the thing itself.

§Arrange before the lift

  • 01Arrange who gives signals — only one person at a time
  • 02Arrange whether hand signals or radio are used
  • 03Review the lift together so everyone knows what will happen

§During the lift.

  • 01Use clear, agreed signs or clear radio messages
  • 02The operator follows only signals from the designated person
  • 03Keep ongoing contact about the load's path and obstacles

§In doubt

  • 01An unclear or conflicting signal means stop, not guess
  • 02Clarify the situation before the lift continues
  • 03Confirm that everyone agrees before the load is moved further
