Refrigeration technology is based on one fundamental idea: a cycle moves heat from one place to another using a refrigerant that evaporates and condenses. If you understand that process, you understand both refrigeration systems, freezers, air conditioning and heat pumps.
You must be able to do this
- 01Explain the refrigeration cycle and the parts: evaporator, compressor, condenser, expansion valve
- 02Read off pressures and temperatures and assess whether a system is running normally
- 03Troubleshoot systematically instead of guessing
- 04Handle refrigerant with minimal leakage and full documentation
- 05Work safely with pressure, cold, open flame and electricity

Draw the cycle process from your head and explain what happens in each part. Practice putting words to what a symptom could be caused by and which measurement would confirm or refute it. The person who can explain the subject simply has understood it.
