Checklist: mandatory leak check under F-gas regulation
How to perform and document a leak test that meets the regulations
Use this checklist each time you perform a statutory leak test. Always adapt it to the specific installation size, refrigerant type and your company's own procedure.
§Before the inspection
- 01Look up what refrigerant amount and GWP the system has and calculate the CO2 equivalent
- 02Check if facility is above threshold for mandatory leak inspection (5 tons CO2-equiv. / 10 tons for hermetically sealed systems)
- 03Get the system's register/logbook and see the last inspection's result
- 04Bring a leak detector that is calibrated and suitable for the system's refrigerant

- 01Review all joints, valves, seals and welds systematically
- 02Use electronic leak detector or other approved method at all risk points
- 03Note pressure and temperatures and compare with previous measurements
- 04Check and record temperatures at critical steps
§After the inspection
- 01Record date, result and any leaks found in the system's logbook
- 02Note name and certificate information on the person who carried out the inspection
- 03Plan the menu so leftovers can be used legally: today's surplus vegetables become tomorrow's soup or pie.
