Checklist: safe startup at machine
What you should go through before you press start
Routine is good, but routine can also make you skip steps. Use the list as a fixed habit every time you sit at a machine — especially one you don't know well.
§Before you start
- 01No loose clothing, jewellery or hair – everything must be secure
- 02Eye protection on and hearing protection ready if recommended
- 03Check that shielding is in place
- 04The part and tool are properly and safely clamped
- 05You know where the emergency stop is located.
- 06With CNC: check program, zero point and tool data before you run
§While you work
- 01Keep hands away from rotating parts and cutting areas
- 02Never remove chips with fingers — stop the machine or use hook/brush
- 03Keep order at the workplace so you don't stumble or drop tools in the machine
- 04Keep an eye on that cooling/lubricant runs as it should
§When you are done.
- 01Stop the machine completely before you tidy up
- 02Remove chips responsibly and clean the work area
- 03Report errors and shortages further if something did not work as it should
