5S review of workstation

Fixed scheme for keeping your station neat, safe, and easy to work efficiently from.

Review your workstation regularly according to the five steps of 5S, for example once a week or at shift change. The purpose is not a one-time tidy-up, but a fixed habit that keeps the station safe and efficient.

§1. Sort

  • 01Remove tools and material not used in this work
  • 02Leave only what you really need within reach
  • 03Remove or mark expired or defective equipment for repair/disposal

§2. Put in system

  • 01Give each tool a fixed marked place
  • 02Place what you use most often closest to you
  • 03Make sure that walkways and emergency exits are clear of material

§3. Sparkling clean

  • 01Clean the station, machine and floor thoroughly
  • 02Use cleaning to spot leaks, wear or loose parts
  • 03Remove spills and waste before it dries hard or becomes a tripping hazard

§4. Standardise

  • 01Describe or photograph how the station should look when in order
  • 02Use the same standard for everyone working at the station
  • 03Make it possible for anyone to see a deviation from the standard immediately
