Study course project and study competence at HTX

The major final project and the competencies that carry you forward

HTX is not just about learning individual subjects — the education should also make you academically qualified, that is, capable of studying further at a higher education institution. You practice this throughout the course, but most clearly in the large, final project where you work independently and across subjects with a problem that you help shape yourself.

§What is university entrance qualification?

Study competence is the sum of skills and habits that allow you to perform in a higher education programme. It is not a single subject, but a way of working that cuts across all subjects.

  • 01To be able to read and understand technical texts and extract the essential
  • 02To work independently and structure a longer process
  • 03Formulating a problem and investigating it systematically
  • 04To argue professionally and use sources responsibly
  • 05Communicating both in writing and verbally

§The final project

In the third year, you write a larger written project, where you normally combine two subjects — often a technical or scientific subject and a general subject. You choose an area, narrow down a problem statement and work through the analysis towards a conclusion. It is your own investigation, and the independence is part of what is assessed.

§How to approach it

Phase.What you do
Workpiece selectionFind an area that both interests you and has enough subject matter
Problem formulationNarrow down a question that can be investigated with your subjects
Material searchFind and select reliable sources and data
AnalysisProcess the material using the disciplines' methods
ConclusionGather the threads and answer the problem statement

§The verbal presentation

The project is often concluded with an oral examination where you present and defend your work. The key is being able to explain your choices: why you delimited the way you did, which methods you used, and what you see as the project's strengths and weaknesses. Being able to think critically about your own work counts positively.

§Preparation in good time

  • 01Start noting possible topics long before the project period
  • 02PLACEHOLDER_117
  • 03Make a list of dental laboratories and companies you want to contact.
  • 04Use your supervisor actively — it is not a sign of weakness, but of good practice

The final project is a dress rehearsal for studying: you stand at the helm yourself but you are not alone at sea.
