Project work and laboratories at HTX
How you learn from criticism and move forward
On HTX, project work is not an occasional break — it is a fundamental working method. In the technology subject and in technical subjects, you work in groups to develop solutions to real problems, from the first idea to a finished prototype or product.
§The phases in a technology project.
A technology project typically follows a problem-oriented working process. Although the phases may be described slightly differently from school to school the core is the same: you move from problem to solution and document along the way.
- 01Problem formulation: What is the problem, and for whom?
- 02Research and analysis: What do we know already, and what requirements does the solution place?
- 03Idea development: Multiple possible solutions are generated and evaluated
- 04Development and production: The chosen solution is designed or programmed.
- 05Test and evaluation: Does the solution work and how can it be improved?
- 06Communication: The result is presented orally and in writing
§Work in the laboratory
In physics, chemistry and biology you conduct experiments that both underpin the theory and train your practical and scientific thinking. Good laboratory work is built on a clear plan, careful execution and a critical assessment of the results.

§The scientific report
The results of an experiment are collected in a report that makes the work transparent and reproducible. A classical structure contains objective, theory, materials and method, results, data processing, discussion and conclusion. The point is that another person should be able to understand, evaluate and repeat your experiment.
§Cooperation and role distribution
Project work also trains collaboration. A good group decides early on who does what, maintains a shared overview of deadlines, and gives each other constructive feedback. Being able to work in a team is a professional competency in itself — and something both higher education institutions and employers are looking for.
