From HTX to further education
Entry requirements, quota 1 and 2, and where the HTX profile is strongest
The most important first: a technical high school diploma is a valid high school diploma that gives general study competence — that is access to apply for further education on equal terms with students from STX HHX and HF. But general access is not the same as access to everything: the individual further educations additionally set specific entrance requirements for specific subjects at specific levels and those are the ones you need to master well ahead of time.
§Specific access requirements — trades and levels
A specific access requirement can for example be mathematics at A-level or physics at B-level. Many technical and natural science educations — including a large part of engineering educations — require mathematics A together with physics and chemistry at specific levels. Here the HTX student stands well: physics B and chemistry B are mandatory for all and mathematics A is one of the most common study direction and elective subjects in the education. The exact requirements vary from education to education and can change so always look them up on UddannelsesGuiden (ug.dk) where the access requirements for each education are collected.
§Quota 1 and quota 2
Admission to higher education occurs through two quotas. In quota 1 you are assessed solely on your average grade from the upper secondary exam — if your average is high enough compared to this year's quota limit, you're in. In quota 2 the institution makes a more holistic assessment where e.g. relevant professional work, motivated application or an entrance exam may be included. The application deadline for quota 2 is in March and for quota 1 at the beginning of July — check the current dates when you apply.

§Where the HTX profile is strongest
- 01Engineering qualifications (diploma and civil engineer) – HTX's subject package often matches the requirements directly
- 02Computer science, software development and IT qualifications — especially with programming or communication/IT in the background
- 03Science at university: physics, chemistry, nanotechnology, biotechnology
- 04Health Science, e.g. Medicine and Pharmacy — be aware of specific level requirements in chemistry and mathematics
- 05Architecture and design studies and building constructor — often combined with entrance exam or portfolio
- 06Business academy education in technology, IT and laboratory.
§Remember: you are not locked into technology
The student examination from HTX is general. If you want to study law, economics or psychology, you can apply on an equal footing with other students as long as you meet the specific requirements — which for many social sciences and humanities degrees are few. Some HTX students discover along the way that their interests lie elsewhere, and the exam closes no doors because of it.
§A good plan in three steps

- 022.g: adjust electives so the requirements are covered — and visit open days at the programmes at the top
- 033.g: clarify quota 1/quota 2 strategy, keep track of deadlines and apply via the shared admissions portal
