Overview of the fixed subject line all HTX students must go through
The course of study fills a lot of the HTX conversation, but most of your schedule actually consists of mandatory subjects — the common subject line that everyone goes through regardless of course. According to the Danish Business Schools and Gymnasiums review of subjects and content at HTX, the subject line is fixed and reflects the dual purpose of the programme: a general student examination with a technical-scientific backbone.

§Technology and technique subjects — HTX's own subjects
You have the technology subject in the first and second years. Here all study programs work from the same broad project outline and you must find a problem and create the corresponding solution — this is where the problem-oriented working method is established. The technique subject at A-level follows in the third year and ties together the many things you have learned in a thorough practical and theoretical program within one of four directions.
§Idea history — the surprising subject
Idea history at B-level is something of HTX' best kept secret. The subject investigates how ideas, technology and science have developed through history and shaped — and have been shaped by — society. For a technical education, it is a crucial perspective: technology never arises in a vacuum, and the person who is to develop tomorrow's solutions stands stronger with an understanding of how previous technological shifts changed people's lives.
§The study area ties the subjects together
Beyond the individual subjects, you work throughout the entire education with the study area — a number of interdisciplinary project courses, typically six or seven in total, where the subjects come together on complex problems. The purpose is to strengthen your method awareness: you learn to see that the physicist, the technologist and the Danish teacher ask different questions of the same reality, and to choose the right method for the right problem. The study area culminates in the study area project, SOP, in 3.g.
§What do the levels mean in practice?
- 01A-level is the highest and typically spans all three years with the greatest subject matter coverage
- 02B Level is the Middle Level — at HTX the Common Science Subjects are Here at a Minimum
- 03C-level is the basic level, often completed after a single year
- 04Higher educations have access requirements in the form of certain subjects at certain levels — check them before you choose study direction and electives
- 05You can raise a subject to a higher level with electives, if your course of study does not already do it
