Checklist for cargo securing
How to ensure goods don't slip during moving and transport
Review the points when you secure goods — on a stack, a chassis or in a container. It's better to check one time too many than to have a load shift.
§Placement
- 01Put the heaviest at the bottom and distribute the weight evenly
- 02Make sure that the load cannot tip or roll
- 03Use walls and edges so the load is supported.
- 04Stay within the allowed weight for chassis or stack
§Security
- 01Use lashing, straps or chains with sufficient strength
- 02Clamp so the load cannot move – not even during braking
- 03Use wedges, supports or shims where necessary
- 04Check that nothing protrudes dangerously
§Inspection
- 01Check security one last time before cargo is set in motion.
- 02Check that paper and goods match
- 03Report if anything cannot be secured responsibly
