Plan before a ship docks
How the basic course is structured
Most of the pace at a terminal is determined before the ship even arrives. Is the plan and space ready work can start immediately. Go through this template as preparation for an arrival.
§Know the cargo
- 01What comes aboard, and what must go out?
- 02How much do the individual units weigh, and what are the largest lifts?
- 03Is there hazardous goods or special cargo that requires extra precautions?
§Prepare the space and machinery
- 01Has space been cleared where the goods will be placed, and are stacks and paths ready?
- 02Are the right machines available and checked — crane, reachstacker, trucks, tractors?
- 03Are lifting gear and straps in order and of correct capacity?
§People and roles
- 01Is the team in place and does everyone know what they are doing?
- 02Is communication agreed — radio, signals, who directs?
- 03Are security and access arrangements in place for those who need to enter the area?
