Color management and proof print: checklist.

Use this checklist when a job is to be colour-managed and approved before the entire batch is started.

§Before the proof print

• 01The file's colour space is controlled — CMYK or correct special color, not RGB.
• 02The correct ICC profile for paper type and printing method is selected.
• 03Paper properties directly affect the print result. Uncoated paper absorbs more ink and gives a softer, more muted reproduction, while coated paper holds the ink on the surface and gives sharper contrasts and more saturated colours. The thickness and stiffness of the cardboard is important for how the product folds and behaves later in finishing.

§During pressure test.

• 01Compare the proof sheet with the reference (eg previously approved print or proof).
• 02Measure color values against the standard (e.g. ISO 12647-2 / PSO) if equipment for it is available.
• 03Assess white balance contrast and any changes in tone.

§Approval

• 01Ask for written or visible approval of the test paper before running the batch.
• 02Save the approved test sheet as reference throughout the print run.
• 03Note any special agreements, e.g. an accepted colour deviation.
