Checklist: safety equipment and gear before work under tension
What needs to be in order before L-AUS or AUS work begins
Work under voltage — L-AUS and AUS — places high demands on equipment and preparation. Go through this checklist every time you have to perform that type of task, no matter how routine the task feels.
§Personal protective equipment
- 01Insulating gloves – tested and without visible damage or cracks
- 02Face shield or helmet with visor
- 03Flame-retardant work clothing
- 04Insulating footwear suitable for the task
§Tools and equipment
- 01Insulated hand tools designed for the voltage level
- 02Tested voltage meter
- 03Cordoning material and warning signs for the task
§Before you start
- 01Confirm that you are sufficiently qualified or properly instructed for this specific task
- 02Inform colleagues or emergency centre about what you are going to do
- 03Know escape route and emergency procedure if something goes wrong
“The equipment must be checked every time—not because it usually fails but because the consequence is too great if it does.”
