§What a Part-145 workshop must be able to document

§Role of the quality department
The quality department in a Part-145 workshop is organisationally independent of daily production, precisely so it can point out deviations without being pressured by deadlines. It conducts internal audits, follows up on findings and ensures that the company's manual always reflects how work is actually done. The manual — often called Maintenance Organisation Exposition (MOE) — is the very foundation of the approval: it describes the company's organisation, division of responsibility, procedures and facilities in such detail that the Danish Transport Authority can assess whether the company actually meets Part-145 requirements, and any significant change in how work is done must therefore be reflected in an update to the manual before it comes into effect.

§Why it concerns you as a student
Although you as an apprentice or newly qualified are not a certifying member from day one you already work within the same quality system: your documentation your tool inventory and your ability to follow procedures precisely are the building blocks the entire approval rests on. A weak habit here propagates all the way up through the system.
§What happens when the system fails
The quality system is not just to pass an audit — it is the mechanism that must discover and correct errors before they have consequences. If a deviation is found during an internal or external audit, it typically triggers a formal process: the cause must be found, a corrective action must be described and implemented, and the effect of the action must be verified afterwards. In serious cases, the Danish Transport Authority can restrict or revoke a company's Part-145 approval if deviations are not corrected, which in practice means the company loses the right to maintain and release aircraft. That consequence is an important part of why the quality system is taken so seriously throughout the organisation — from apprentice to director.
For you as a student it means even small observations are valuable. If you notice that a procedure in practice differs from what is in the handbook or that a piece of equipment has not been calibrated on time it is something that should be passed on to the quality department — not because it is necessarily a big deal but because exactly that kind of small early observation is what the system is built to catch.
