How you use feedback to improve
A day as a flight technician rarely involves guessing. It is about following a procedure precisely, controlling your work and noting down what has been done. Here is how a typical task moves — notice how central documentation is throughout.
§Planned inspections
Much of the work is planned maintenance: aircraft are checked at fixed intervals and according to programmes that specify exactly what is to be inspected, lubricated, replaced or measured. It is preventive work that catches wear and faults before they become problems. The inspections follow regulations — you do not decide yourself what to check; you follow the set plan.
§Troubleshooting
When something doesn't work as it should, troubleshooting begins. It's a systematic process: understand the symptom, narrow down where the error can be, and test yourself forward following procedures instead of changing parts blind. Good troubleshooting saves time and parts and is built on understanding how the plane's systems fit together. Guessing is neither safe nor professional.
§Repair and replacement
When the error is found, it's repaired or replaced. Approved parts and the prescribed tools and torques are used—a bolt must be tightened with the prescribed force, not by feel. You use the technical documentation that comes with the plane, and follow it to the letter. This is not a trade where you improvise a solution.

Much aviation documentation is in English, and precision in both language and numbers is crucial. A misunderstood instruction or an incorrectly noted number can have implications for safety. Therefore, care in reading, understanding and noting correctly is a core competency in the profession — just as much as tightening.
