Checklist: Ergonomics and work environment in gym

Beware of your own body in daily work

Use this checklist regularly to assess your own working environment as a trainer — both the physical strain and the framework around the teaching. The checklist can also be used as input for the centre's APV (workplace assessment).

§Your own body

  • 01Do I vary working positions throughout the day, or stand still for hours?
  • 02PLACEHOLDER_102
  • 03Do I demonstrate exercises alternately on both sides of the body?
  • 04Have I taken short breaks, even on busy days?

§The room and equipment

  • 01Is it tidy so that I and team members don't trip over equipment?
  • 02Is the noise level (music, machines) bearable for an entire working day?
  • 03Is there enough space around the exercises I'm instructing?
  • 04Are lighting and temperature reasonable in the rooms I teach in?

§Organic

  • 01Is there adequate scheduling time between sessions and briefings?
  • 02Am I unnecessarily disturbed by phone or other tasks during teaching?
  • 03Do I know who I should go to if something in the work environment is not working?
  • 04Is there room to raise workplace safety issues without it being perceived as complaining?
