Checklist: safe access to high voltage system in electric/hybrid machine

Only for certified employees — but everyone should know the rules

§Before you even approach the system

  • 01Confirm that you have the necessary certification to work on high voltage.
  • 02If you are not certified: do not touch orange cables or marked panels — call a colleague who is.
  • 03Review the manufacturer's documentation for this specific machine model.
  • 04Inform colleagues that you are working on a high-voltage system.

§Make the system de-energized

  • 01Follow the manufacturer's documented procedure for interruption, step by step.
  • 02Remove or lock the service disconnect according to regulations.
  • 03Wait for the prescribed time so capacitors can discharge.
  • 04Confirm with a suitable, voltage-tested measuring instrument that the system is de-energized — never blindly trust the procedure alone.

§During the work.

  • 01Use insulated gloves and tools approved for the voltage level.
  • 02Cordon off the work area so others do not unintentionally restore power.
  • 03Never put conductive tools or jewellery next to open high-voltage parts.
  • 04Have a clear plan for how to call for help in an accident.

§After work

  • 01Reinstall panels and guards fully before the system is energized again.
  • 02Remove lock/signs and inform colleagues that work is complete.
  • 03Test the system in a controlled manner according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • 04Document the work performed and any observations.
