Checklist: safe access to high voltage system in electric/hybrid machine
Only for certified employees — but everyone should know the rules
§Before you even approach the system
- 01Confirm that you have the necessary certification to work on high voltage.
- 02If you are not certified: do not touch orange cables or marked panels — call a colleague who is.
- 03Review the manufacturer's documentation for this specific machine model.
- 04Inform colleagues that you are working on a high-voltage system.
§Make the system de-energized
- 01Follow the manufacturer's documented procedure for interruption, step by step.
- 02Remove or lock the service disconnect according to regulations.
- 03Wait for the prescribed time so capacitors can discharge.
- 04Confirm with a suitable, voltage-tested measuring instrument that the system is de-energized — never blindly trust the procedure alone.
§During the work.
- 01Use insulated gloves and tools approved for the voltage level.
- 02Cordon off the work area so others do not unintentionally restore power.
- 03Never put conductive tools or jewellery next to open high-voltage parts.
- 04Have a clear plan for how to call for help in an accident.
§After work
- 01Reinstall panels and guards fully before the system is energized again.
- 02Remove lock/signs and inform colleagues that work is complete.
- 03Test the system in a controlled manner according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- 04Document the work performed and any observations.
