Lubrication, welding and wear in the workshop

The basic craftsmanship behind durable repair

Many animal breakdowns are not about a complicated electronic fault, but about lack of lubrication, poorly executed welding or wear that was not detected in time. The basic workshop crafts are often what determines whether a repair holds.

§Lubrication extends service life

Lubricants reduce friction and heat between parts moving against each other, and protect against corrosion. Incorrect or missing lubrication leads to wear, scoring and in the worst case failure of bearings and bushings. Use the type of lubricant and interval prescribed by the manufacturer — too much or wrong grease can be just as harmful as too little.

§Follow the lubrication schedule

  • 01Lubricate grease nipples according to manufacturer's lubrication plan and interval.
  • 02Wipe the nipple clean before greasing so you do not push dirt in.
  • 03Be aware that old grease is pressed out — it shows that the lubrication reached.
  • 04Use correct oil type in gearbox, hydraulics and engine.

§Welding on machines

Welding is used to repair cracks and wear in steel. It requires practice, proper preparation of the material and the right equipment. On a modern machine there are special precautions: follow the manufacturer's instructions, disconnect battery and control units according to regulations, and place the earth clamp close to the welding location so that the welding current does not flow through electronics or bearings.

§Understand wear

Wear occurs where parts rub against each other, where particles get in, or where something is loaded more than it is built for. When you replace a worn part, ask yourself: why did it wear out? Was it lack of lubrication, dirt, incorrect assembly or overload? If you fix the cause, the new part will last much longer.

Good craftsmanship in lubrication, welding and understanding of wear is what makes the difference between a repair that holds and one that fails again shortly after.
