Safe work procedure for measuring on a device
How to measure safely, even when there might be mains voltage
Use this procedure before you measure in a device you have opened.
1. Assess the risk
- 01Are there parts connected to mains voltage from the outlet?
- 02Can there be charge left in capacitors, even when it is turned off?
- 03May I legally and professionally work on this part?
2. Make safely ready
- 01Disconnect and secure the power where possible.
- 02Use correctly adjusted and complete measuring equipment.
- 03Ensure a dry, tidy workplace and good lighting.
3. Measure with care
- 01Choose the right measurement setting before you touch the circuit.
- 02Keep one hand free and don't touch multiple points at once unnecessarily.
- 03Protect sensitive components against static (ESD) in low voltage work.
