Plan for commissioning a sensor and automation system
From first electricity connection to a system that runs reliably
Commissioning is best done step by step — never jump straight to full operation.
1. Before power is turned on
- 01Is all cabling and installation checked against the diagram?
- 02Are there no visible short circuits or loose connections?
- 03Are sensors, control and actuators correctly grounded and ESD-protected where relevant?
2. First electrical connection
- 01Apply power gradually and check supply voltage first.
- 02Check that the controller starts correctly without error messages.
- 03Keep actuators away from load/mechanics on first test if possible.
3. Calibrate and test each sensor individually
- 01Compare each sensor's measurement with a known reference value.
- 02Adjust or calibrate if measurement deviates too much.
- 03Document calibration values and time.
4. Test each actuator individually
- 01Activate each exit individually and confirm correct physical response.
- 02Check that the actuator stops/switches off as it should.
- 03Check for any safety limits and emergency stop
5. Run the system together
- 01Test the full feedback loop under realistic conditions.
- 02Monitor the system over time, not just at start-up.
- 03Complete the documentation and hand over to operations.
