§1. Secure the situation
- 01Bring yourself and others to safety from the animal.
- 02Make sure that the animal is safely secured before you assess the injury.
§2. Treat the damage
- 01Clean the wound thoroughly with water and soap.
- 02Stop any bleeding and cover the wound.
- 03Seek medical attention for deep bites, large wounds or signs of infection.
- 04Be aware that animal bites can cause infection even with small wounds.
§3. Report and follow up
- 01Report the incident to responsible manager.
- 02Record the accident according to workplace rules.
- 03Note what happened and what can prevent recurrence.
- 04Check the animal — did it react from fear, pain or illness?
