Checklist: Prevention of shop theft
Concrete measures that reduce loss without inconveniencing honest customers
Good theft prevention is mostly about habits and attention — not about suspecting all customers. Use the list as a daily reminder.
§Shop room
- 01Keep an eye on areas that are hard to see from the cab.
- 02Make sure that mirrors and cameras are clean and working.
- 03Avoid building displays so high that they hide parts of the store.
- 04Place especially valuable or frequently stolen items visibly and close to staff.
§Behaviour that has a preventive effect
- 01Greet all customers when they come in — visible attention prevents theft.
- 02Move around the store rather than standing in just one place.
- 03Be particularly alert during queues and busy times, when attention easily falters.
- 04Talk with colleagues about who covers which areas during quiet periods.
§If you discover a possible theft
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Observe calmly—be sure of what you've seen |
| 2 | Involve a colleague or manager if possible |
| 3 | Speak calmly to the person if they are still in the shop |
| 4 | Accept it if the person refuses and wants to leave — call the police in that case |
| 5 | Never use physical force beyond what is strictly necessary and legal |
| 6 | Document the incident (time, description, possible camera recording) |
§Weekly follow-up.
- 01Review the week's shrinkage and inventory deviations with the team.
- 02Follow up whether specific product groups appear repeatedly in the statistics.
- 03Share a public status link with your builder — completely without login. The customer sees the matter's status, progress and photos, but NEVER prices, hours or internal notes. Delete the link anytime.
